Abstract Diagnostics with force probes in plumes of electric propulsion systems for spacecraft (thrusters) are presented. This contribution focuses on showing example measurements the most common gridless ion thruster types. The thrusters investigated at typical operation modes a probe fixed or variable positions plume. measures tiny plate that is attached to sensitive cantilever elastic deflection measured interferometrically and translated into proportional force.
